Manel No. 5

A few posts ago, I introduced French illustrator Stephane Manel. His style inspired me to buy a Wacom digital drawing pad similar to what he uses, and since then I've been feeling it out ... and it's not easy. While Wacom has created a very realistic pen-on-paper feel with the pad, nothing compares to the real thing, so it takes a lot of getting used to.

So, as a practice exercise, I have been trying to mirror Manel's portrait of Sebastien Tellier.

Here is Manel's portrait:

And mine:
Not perfect, but it is definitely an improvement over using Adobe Illustrator - and a lot more fun.

  1. Nice work! We had a designer hear a few years back who SWORE by her Wacom Tablet. We actually gave an advance to her husband so he could surprise her with it. I can't make that shit work, but it seems to be the tool of choice for those who have used one.

Thanks for the love on the ATF piece—I you really enjoyed it, check out their FB page and become a fan...we're doing a social media push to improve their communication to a younger demo of theatre goers. So far we've more than doubled their numbers. Every person helps!

    Thanks again.

  2. Interesting experiment. I can't draw, on a pad of any variety. I'm a self-professed wordsmith, but without a keyboard I am lost. Fascinating how the tools play such a critical role.
